The Product
Chicken litter (Poulfert) has long been recognised as a fantastic fertiliser. It is most suitable for dairy platform and support as well as horticultural use. Poulfert is sourced from broiler chicken sheds situated throughout Canterbury.
Poulfert:
Totally natural/sustainable
It consists of untreated timber shavings which are used as a bedding agent for growing the chickens and is pushed out after the growing process and becomes the product. The product Poulfert is simply timber shavings which have absorbed nutrient value from the chickens throughout their growing cycle. The product is 100% natural, and locally sourced.
Contains organic matter;
The secret to the product is that while we talk about nutrients per kilo in volume the product comes by the tonne, all of which is an amazing mix of nutrient value and organic matter. This organic matter is instrumental in building soil structure creating bio diversity suitable for strong healthy plant growth. The obvious increase in earth worm levels is an initial sign the product is working beyond growing healthy plants
Increases soil PH;
Continued use of Poulfert will increase soil ph. The product has an average PH of 9.
Nutrient content;
The higher nutrient values in Poulfert are typically N, P and K, however there are various other nutrients as set out in the table below. Poulfert is consistent in its nature as is the growing process and is produced year round. While part of Poulferts nitrogen content is available immediately, the balance is released slowly giving sustained nutrient activity which is beneficial being in keeping with the plants ability to absorb these nutrients as it grows.
Soil structure;
Poulfert adds to building soil structure, by adding organic matter, therefore stimulating biological activity. Soil micro-organisms are essential for any healthy soil creating an environment of healthy activity, which provides a soil which is strong for plant growth, which holds higher moisture levels for longer and resists windblown erosion.
Cost effective
Poulfert is a complete balanced fertiliser and over the years has proven to be one of the most cost effective fertilisers available.
